Hisland - HOME

HISLAND is an unsigned Canadian rock band with a blues influence, formed in Kitchener, Ontario in July 2010. Think New York underground mixed with Southern garage rock (The Strokes, early Kings of Leon), and you've got the distinct sound of HISLAND. The band consists of Sal (vocals, guitar), Jacob Anthony (drums, b/g vocals), Mat Anthony (guitar), and Pavel (bass).

Their debut record "Muckshack" (EP) was released in September 2010. The first track "The Devil" received immediate attention, being nominated for "Best Rock Song" at the 2010 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and receiving radio play through various online streams and reputable stations.

The following year held many accomplishments for HISLAND: Sal was nominated for "Best Male Vocalist" at the 2011 Los Angeles Music Awards, and HISLAND performed in Austin during SXSW 2011 - a feat musicians dream of fulfilling in their first year as a band. With 2012 well underway, HISLAND has performed at Canadian Music Fest, and has been announced to perform at Spring Music Festival in Hamilton, Ontario in May.

Pronounced "his-lynnd," the band name comes from a private island called "Horseshoe Island", located in The 1000 Islands, Canada. It's home to where the band goes in the summertime to write and hang with friends. In fact, HISLAND recorded their demo "Thousand Islands" up there in a cottage bunkhouse. Not bad, eh?

With the release of their latest demo "Aberdeen" in March 2012, featuring two new songs "New Orleans" and "Going Back", 2012 is shaping up to be a good one. Radio stations in South Africa and Argentina have even picked up on HISLAND, and have played their material multiple times. We'll just have to see what's next.

HISLAND rocks Canadian Music Fest 2012!

HISLAND opened a SOLD OUT Canadian Music Week Showcase on Saturday night at a great venue - C'est What - in Toronto. It was HISLAND's first CMW appearance, and it was one to remember. Playing alongside a number of great bands including The French Wives from Glasgow, Scotland, the place was packed and the bar was drank dry. The poutines were alright, too. A HUGE thanks to Canadian Music Fest and its organizers for an unforgettable opportunity!

New EP Released!

After a long wait, we've finally released our new EP "Thousand Islands". Recorded by ourselves in a cottage bunkhouse, it turned out raw and gritty. Premier Life Write-Up on Hisland!

Hisland's "No. 1" - now available!

Hisland's first production t-shirts, "No.1", are now available in all men's and women's sizes! However, this is for a limited time only while supplies last. Only 100 are in stock, and they will not be reproduced; that is, a new design will follow for the next 100 shirts, and so on. Send us an e-mail if you want to get your hands on one! They are $15.

Post-SXSW 2011

We love Austin. Nah, we just love Texas in general. Cheapest beer, cigarettes, food, liquor, and beer. And the crowds were fantastic. We can't express how great of a time we had playing for everyone in Austin! You guys were so good to us, and we can't wait to come back. Hisland rocks SXSW. Come check us out!

Hisland will be playing in downtown Austin, TX for SXSW on Friday March 18th, 1:30pm (CT) at 120 W. Fifth St (between Colorado and Congress) and Saturday March 19th, 6:00pm (CT) at 5th and Colorado. Hisland heading to SXSW!

Hisland is heading south! Last week, the band was invited to perform at a big musical festival in Austin, Texas during SXSW Week (March 11-20, 2011). This will be their first U.S. performance on an outdoor stage. Expect a ton of photos!
